The truth behind the woman
I personally think that David Hwang's "The Sound of a Voice" is a very hard play to understand. In my opinion, it is a play that makes you think. It is about two characters who are very complex and in my opinion very mysterious. They both are two very lonely people. This play shows how both individuals are very much not fond of silence. (The man said that he slept near the waterfall because he felt calm with the sound and the woman also said that she will sleep better because of the sound of the man's heartbeat.)
I found an analysis of the play online. Here's a link if any of you guys want to read it. :)
Analysis
I personally feel that this play is somehow a bit symbolic. In the last scene, when the man tried to play the flute, it did not make a sound. In my opinion, this is because the woman died already at that time.
I feel that the stain on the floor is very important. At first, I thought that maybe the woman placed it there on purpose. Why? Maybe it acts as a "test" for the man. Why did she ask the man to remove it? To see how strong the man is. I feel that in this play the woman is weirdly very obsessed with the strength of the man. But, in class, we discusses more about the matter and one of the possibilities is that the stain might be the blood of the past visitors.
I think an interesting thing that can happen is to try and act this play in a modern setting. In this play, the man tried to get rid of the stain with his strength. But I think he could just use one of these methods. :p
How to Remove Stains
Teddy: Well, I think that the woman is plain scary!! I mean, I definitely do not want to be a doll at that place!! It sound so dull and lifeless! I feel that the only things "living" in that place are the flowers! Gosh! How did she survive living there alone? Why did she kill herself? Weird play ...

Stating My Opinion
What will you do when you find that something is not right? When you find something that is completely wrong? Are you just gonna stand there and watch or are you going to do something?
Do you have the courage to voice yourself out?
In Persepolis, we see Marjane and her Nanny join the demonstration and both of them were scolded by Marjane's parents.
I had an experience once when I was scolded by my Dad when I wanted to complain about the Indonesian Airport staff. So, basically this is what happened.
So basically, I got scolded because I wanted to state my opinion. I have been taught in school that we should always have a stand. We should stand for what we believe in. But in this case, especially in Indonesia, there is no such thing as "right" and "wrong". If you are of Chinese descendant, you'll probably be cast out. You'll probably loose to the Indonesians.
Teddy: Stupid Tania got angry all the way home. Her dad made her read articles about how the government run places sued people because they bad-mouthed the places. Poor her..

Iran-Iraq War
"Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi is the story of Marjane's family in Iran. A big section of the book focuses on her family during the Iran-Iraq war. The Iran-Iraq war started in 1980.
The Iran-Iraq war started because of the dispute between the Shatt-al Arab waterway. Iraq attacked Iran because it has been denied usage of the waterway.
The Islamic revolution began in 1979. The Shah was stripped off his power and the exiled religious leader Ayatollah Khomein came and became their "supreme leader", taking control over Iran. Because of this, the government has isolated Iran from the rest of the world.Iraq invades Iran and therefore the Iran-Iraq war began.
Persepolis shows that not everyone agreed to Ayatollah Khomein's decisions.

Marji and her family rebelled by participating in demonstrations and breaking laws in regards to restriction on modern and westernized facets of culture. Above, you can see that the family has a TV, a sign of westernization. Despite the war outside, it shows that families still continued to have normal nights.

You're The Apple To My Pie
It's me! These past few days, I have been obsessing about a song by Auburn called
'Perfect two", and I thought to myself, who clicks with me? Who can I share my
point of views with? And almost immediately I though of Teddy. He's
a fluffy teddy bear given to me by my best friend, Maria before I went to the United
States to complete my studies.
Hi there! You guys are probably wondering how a teddy bear can talk or even write
this blog. Well, Tania doesn't know this but I'll tell you. She is the most clueless girl I
know. Maria, her best friend is actually a fairy. She put this magic spell on me that gave
me the power to move, talk and think.Tania expects me to just sit here and listen to her
views but this Teddy bear ain't gonna do so! I have my own opinions too!!
